How to Buy an Air-Purifier?

Because of pollution, the air is filled with tons of allergens, dust, pollen, dust mites, pet hair and odours and all of us can lead a healthier life by using modern air purifiers in our home and cars. They are beneficial for people suffering from asthma and various type of allergies. The air-purifiers comprise of High Efficiency Particulate Arrestance (HEPA) filters which trap particles even smaller than 0.3 microns and remove around 99 percent pollutants. HEPA filters need regular vacuum cleaning for better performance and prolonged life and they should be replaced on turning dark grey colour. Air purifiers should be equipped with advanced features like built-in humidifier, timer, sleep mode (quiet operation), child lock and an air quality monitor (which fluctuates between red and green depending on the quality of air). You need to consider certain things before buying an air-purifier.

Room Size :

An air-purifier takes about 15-20 minutes in purifying the air and then recirculate it depending upon the size of a room. For best results, it is always advisable to buy a slightly bigger air purifier than the rated room size. For instance, if the room size is 300 sqft, then buy the purifier that can easily handle 400 sqft room. Also, shut the doors and windows as the air coming in and out of the room can decrease the efficiency of a purifier.

Placement of Air-purifier :

For better results, the placement of the device is very crucial. Do not place it in corners or too close to walls. Keep them in a comfortable and open place and do not pack them between the furniture pieces.

Portability and Weight :

Central purifying device for the whole house is quite expensive and may not be useful for most consumers. Hence, opt for medium sized air-purifier with good performance according to your room size. However, a smaller size air-purifier may look good but it may not be that effective in cleaning the air due to its lower capacity.

Capacity :

The performance of an air-purifier is determined by CADR ratio (clean air delivery rate). Higher the CADR number, more effective will be the air-purifier. The ideal value is 300 and anything above that is very good. Lower than 100 is useless and not effective at all.
